10 Must-Visit Venues at Bangkok Art Biennale 2026
If you are planning to visit Bangkok between late 2026 and early 2027, don't miss Bangkok Art Biennale 2026 (BAB 2026), one of Southeast Asia's largest international contemporary art festivals.
23jP9_gFH3kBangkok Art Biennale is different from a traditional art exhibition. Instead of being held in a single gallery, the festival transforms famous landmarks, temples, museums, and public spaces across Bangkok into unique art venues. Visitors can enjoy world-class artworks while discovering the city's rich history and culture.
This year, the event will present in the theme "Angels and Mara," which reflects today's world in a powerful and meaningful way. At a time when people are facing wars, climate change, misinformation, and social conflicts, many of us are questioning what is truly right and what is wrong. The world is no longer simply divided into black and white. Instead, it is filled with complex situations that challenge our beliefs and values.
As kindness and understanding seem to become weaker, and truth is often viewed differently by different people, Bangkok Art Biennale 2026 invites visitors to explore these questions through contemporary art. Rather than asking us to choose between good and evil, the festival encourages us to understand that light and darkness, hope and fear, can exist together.
The concept of "Angels and Mara" is inspired by spiritual beliefs from both Eastern and Western cultures. Angels are symbols of light, truth, and divine guidance. They appear in many religions, from Archangels Gabriel and Michael in Christianity to devas and apsaras in Buddhist and Hindu traditions. They represent wisdom, compassion, beauty, protection, and the highest potential of humanity. On the other hand, Mara represents the darker side of human nature. In Buddhist teachings, Mara symbolizes greed, desire, jealousy, fear, and the temptations that prevent people from reaching inner peace. According to Buddhist tradition, Mara tried to stop Prince Siddhartha from achieving enlightenment. Therefore, Mara also represents doubt, attachment, and the inner struggles that everyone experiences.
By bringing these two opposite symbols together, Bangkok Art Biennale 2026 does not simply tell a story about the battle between good and evil. Instead, it invites visitors to reflect on the fact that both sides are part of being human. Through contemporary art, the festival encourages us to understand these conflicts with an open mind and reminds us that recognizing both light and darkness may be the first step toward living together with greater understanding and hope.
